This is a shot of one of 50 or so photographers who turned up to the Europe Photobloggers meetup this weekend. This was taken on Friday evening, at the Troubadour Coffee House, and pretty much sums up two of the important ingredients of the evening – beer and photography.
Anyway, I'll write more over the next few days, but just wanted to say that I had a great time and really enjoyed meeting everyone; and thanks to all the organisers – you did a great job. I'll probably put up a few more shots of the social evening from Friday night after which I'll put up some of our trip out on Saturday when we went round the East End with Eric from Curiously Incongrous. John has already put a shot up, and I'm sure there'll be many more to come.
More tomorrow ...
Oh, and I've also posted yesterday's shot, the one that should have gone up on Saturday. It's not especially stunning, but I didn't want to miss a day just because my server's playing up.

Cool capture and good choice for B&W. I like the the fact that all the logos are so well placed and it's comforting to know that squinting through a view finder makes everyone look a little strange, not just me.
I wish I could have made the meetup. Bummer.

Er, now that I think about it - there's a Czech beer that has the misfortune of sharing its name with a low quality American beer. And it says "Czech Premium Lager" on the bottle. My mistake.
comment byRobW at 10:09 PM (GMT) on 25 September, 2005
Love the grimacing face and of cause the beer.
Sometimes you just dont want to put the beer down, but a BUD, I would have probably left it somewhere hoping there was something else on offer.
comment byJohn Enriquez at 10:13 PM (GMT) on 25 September, 2005
Not only is he squinting, he also appears to wear braces! I'm not alone =)
comment byJoe Lencioni at 10:39 PM (GMT) on 25 September, 2005
Nice photo. Great texture and expression on his face. My favorite part is his braces just barely peeking into the shot.

can you please mail me a 1600*1200 px version? i love it!

Great shot, love the tones - the beer is a nice touch ;)
comment byFinwe at 11:07 PM (GMT) on 25 September, 2005
Good shot! I wonder what type of camera is he holding... It seems that it is something more professional and it does't fit with his face to me :)
The type of beer is clear and hence a good choice - Budvar is one of "our" (czech) top beers;)
I like the depth of field and usage of B&W

I love this shot! The sharpness is fantastic. Black and white use is really great here.

As always your photos really stand out -- excellent tones and perspective. I really enjoy your work, thanks for all the great images (especially ones containing my favorite hobbies: beer and photography!)
comment byRock at 01:06 AM (GMT) on 26 September, 2005
That's my kind of phtographer! It looks like he knows his priorities well - hold the beer in your left hand so you can grab a quick drink and not miss the shot.
comment byStuartR at 02:18 AM (GMT) on 26 September, 2005
He has good taste in beer, if not in cameras! ;-) Only joking...
Nice shot, wish I could have made it to London...
comment by Jennifer at 04:32 AM (GMT) on 26 September, 2005
I like the mix of hard and soft. He's trying to be something more than he currently is (ill-shaven, well-used camera, beer to relax) and shows signs that he may actually get there (nice coat, braces to improve image one day)
comment byJoe P at 04:41 AM (GMT) on 26 September, 2005
That's it! That's what my pics are missing - the influence of beer! Ah... now I see...
comment by Geoff at 05:26 AM (GMT) on 26 September, 2005
Yeah, great shot. The braces are also my favourite part.

Do Canon make a beer-grip too? I'll have to look into it. If not I might be able to find a way of mounting a little sherry glass in the flash hotshoe - not sure if it still be TTL though.
Nice shot - looking forward to seeing more.
(oh, and Czech Budweiser is nothing like US Budweiser)
comment bySteveO at 10:45 AM (GMT) on 26 September, 2005
Good portrait, im gutted i couldnt make it to the meetup, and Budvar is a far superior beer to Budweiser :-)

Nice picture and looks even better in black and white. During the past few months I have observed people's choice in the use of DSLRs. I have seen that most people in Europe prefer Canon and most people in India prefer Nikon. Vishvanath, being an Indian by origin, seems to have retained his choice even when he is in Europe.

Ello everyone - saw the pic via Google, oddly enough... I like it - I suspect I just hastily picked up my camera to run off a grab shot ;)
Strange psychoanalysis above people
Shame there was a lack of better beer... and that I had to wear my heavy biker jacket because it was all I had on the night...
But yeah, spending loads of time doing gigs and photojournalism gives you that essential skill of being able to hold a beer and a camera at the same time
comment byVish at 11:00 AM (GMT) on 4 October, 2005
Incidentally, the choice of a Nikon is sod all to do with my name - I had thousands of pounds invested in Nikon lenses so Nikon is the obvious choice. Apart from that, they make better cameras, more useful accessories, have better training, better flashguns and have never, ever, let me down. I moved from Canon eight years ago - great though the T90 was, the build quality just wasn't there...
*runs away and hides before flame war starts*
And I'm not Indian by origin - I'm from Twickenham hahahaha
