David another great B&W shot! Just out of interest which host are you thinking of using?
comment byjustinh at 10:31 PM (GMT) on 8 October, 2005
nice. did you use a tripod to get this at 1/30, or do you rely on steady hands?
comment byowen b at 12:23 AM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
Why aren't you entirely pleased with it?
comment by Geoff at 01:15 AM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
Nice shot. It's an interesting conversion as well. Maybe a tad cold though? The green cast is not that appealling to me personally. The composition is nice though, as is the crisp focus at 1/30th of a sec. I don't have that lens, but from what I can see it's not an IS lens, so you must have very steady hands.
comment byJohn Enriquez at 01:22 AM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
It looks black and white to me... I can't tell the cast from another.

Black and white.
I like the hope in the foreground man's face.
Nice shot as your usual.
Check my website if you feel like it (and maybe leave a comment ?)
Thanks for inspiring pictures.

ouu, very nice. It almost looks like it should be some big poster advertisement at a bus stop or something.
comment by Sharla at 05:01 AM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
Oh, why did you have to go and do that?
Not entirely pleased? Hey, it's an excellent shot -- great composition and interplay between the two subjects, interesting expressions and obvious character, does well in B&W. What are you not pleased with?
(Personally, I think Chris to be slightly underexposed and we've lost some of the shadow detail, but I wouldn't give that more than a point on a 100-pt scale in this instance. It's the character that comes through and is most important.)
comment byBen at 10:03 AM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
I like it alot, the positioning is very good, it actually looks staged to me.
You are right, that is Chris K.

That's an interesting picture of Chris there!

Very cheeky shot full of character. I think it's great and I'd put it on my wall ... (if I had any notion of who the people were maybe ... I wouldn't put it on my wall if I didn't, cos I'm not that weird)
By the way, how's the littlest addition to your household doing?
comment byAndreas at 06:30 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
I'm positive this is ChrisK. I love his expression.

Dave, just a suggestion but how about you inlcude a link to the as-shot image with each of your postings. I know you usually shoot in raw, so you could apply auto white balance andnominal sharpness setting etc. The benefit of this for people like me is that we can see the before and after of any post processing and RAW processing that you do. Speaking personally I think this could be a really useful way of helping other to realise the potential in a shot they might otherwise not be happy with

Fab shot. Love the accidental feel of the composition. Not sure whether some of the comments re colour are due to monitor settings!
