This is the last of the shots I took a couple of weeks ago during the Europe Photobloggers meetup and I wish I could say that in the interventing two weeks I've taken loads of marvellous shots, but, truth be told, I've hardly had time to pick up my camera. I did go out this afternoon with John but I'm not convinced that any of the shots I took were all that great.
Shortage of material aside, I thought I'd bring you up-to-date with what's happening with chromasia; specifically, it's move to another server. All being well this should be happening soon, but the arrangements are slightly complicated and it's taking a bit longer to sort out than we anticipated. Basically, chromasia is going to be hosted by a company who are developing various pieces of software for photobloggers and photographers – including a hosted blogging solution and some stock library software. In exchange for hosting chromasia I'm going to be helping out/advising and so on. In the short term chromasia is still going to use Movable Type, and in the mid to long term, all being well, I'll switch it over to the new software. And it's the short term arrangement that's slowing things down, in that the server has only just been built and is currently being configured to support Movable Type, MySQL, and so on. I'm currently beta-testing some bits of the new version (it's not all installed yet) and should be able to make the switch some time soon. I'll keep you all posted.

Well I thought that this post might turn out to be not so good but I was wrong. This is a lovely example of this kind of reflection.
The diagnol composition is dynamic and the light is lovely. What makes it though is the single room light which pulls the eye into the centre.
I think it's a very fine image Dave.

At last! You've posted an image taken at an ISo other than 100. I guess it had to happen sometime ;)
Nice shot. Wonder how long it'll take someone to mention the rule of thirds. If they do, everyone ignore it. Rules are there to be broken.

It's really good on the black theme. :-)

Nice shot, the single lit office is subtle amongst the reflection.
comment bymark at 11:06 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
Interesting comment from Jamey...about the 'Rule of Thirds'. I'm guessing you're concentrating on the lighted office, which, yep, breaks the rule (more of a guideline really isn't it?! ;-)...)
However, for me there's the significant darker part of the image which emphasises the reflection. Looks like that part covers about 2/3rds ....strangely enough.
I don't think Dave's broken that particular guideline at all...not that it matters. What I like about this is that the overall composition is spot on with the lighted (should that be 'lit'?) office acting as a welcome distraction/focal point.
Great image :-)
comment byEric at 11:12 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005
Outstanding composition. While that one office light is grand, the strong lines are the clincher for me.

This is one of my favorite photos by you, it's so surreal.
Iknow the pain of moving servera and compatibility. Good luck.
I fell like i'm in a sci-fi with this shot. That one window is where our hero works late to defeat the evil empire that will soon host all photoblogs for free....
But at what price?!

Dave, I suggested this yesterday when the server was less than 100% so apologies for the repeat: Just a suggestion but how about you inlcude a link to the as-shot image with each of your postings. I know you usually shoot in raw, so you could get the 20D to record a 'small' JPEG at the same time with auto white balance and nominal other settings. The benefit of this for people like me is that we can see the before and after of any post processing and RAW processing that you do. Speaking personally I think this could be a really useful way of helping other to realise the potential in a shot I might otherwise not be happy with.

What I find very interesting with this photo is on first look I saw the light being on in the glass building and not really looking at the reflection. Then on second look noticing the reflected building, I could see the light as being on in the reflected building not the glass building. Like looking at the pictures which can be viewed in two ways depending on perspective and where you're focusing. Very cool!

I love the color palette of this shot, and the diagonal lines of the composition. And, of course, the light is a great focal point to add interest. Well done.
