This is the last of the shots I took a couple of weeks ago during the Europe Photobloggers meetup and I wish I could say that in the interventing two weeks I've taken loads of marvellous shots, but, truth be told, I've hardly had time to pick up my camera. I did go out this afternoon with John but I'm not convinced that any of the shots I took were all that great.

Shortage of material aside, I thought I'd bring you up-to-date with what's happening with chromasia; specifically, it's move to another server. All being well this should be happening soon, but the arrangements are slightly complicated and it's taking a bit longer to sort out than we anticipated. Basically, chromasia is going to be hosted by a company who are developing various pieces of software for photobloggers and photographers – including a hosted blogging solution and some stock library software. In exchange for hosting chromasia I'm going to be helping out/advising and so on. In the short term chromasia is still going to use Movable Type, and in the mid to long term, all being well, I'll switch it over to the new software. And it's the short term arrangement that's slowing things down, in that the server has only just been built and is currently being configured to support Movable Type, MySQL, and so on. I'm currently beta-testing some bits of the new version (it's not all installed yet) and should be able to make the switch some time soon. I'll keep you all posted.

Just like me :( On a Sunday too!

Well I thought that this post might turn out to be not so good but I was wrong. This is a lovely example of this kind of reflection.

The diagnol composition is dynamic and the light is lovely. What makes it though is the single room light which pulls the eye into the centre.

I think it's a very fine image Dave.

comment by justinh at 08:44 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

great shot - nice blues. colours all work together well. You seem to be a master of reflections, david!

comment by Whitney at 08:50 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

I like this image a lot.

comment by Rob at 08:58 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

I love the color hues in this.

cool angle and colours. i love the way you have picked out the lone window with the light on. good stuff.

dreamy... perfect!

comment by Jamey Howard at 09:50 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

At last! You've posted an image taken at an ISo other than 100. I guess it had to happen sometime ;)

Nice shot. Wonder how long it'll take someone to mention the rule of thirds. If they do, everyone ignore it. Rules are there to be broken.

comment by GP at 10:10 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

It's really good on the black theme. :-)

comment by Ed { tfk } at 10:43 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

Nice shot, the single lit office is subtle amongst the reflection.

comment by mark at 11:06 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

Interesting comment from Jamey...about the 'Rule of Thirds'. I'm guessing you're concentrating on the lighted office, which, yep, breaks the rule (more of a guideline really isn't it?! ;-)...)

However, for me there's the significant darker part of the image which emphasises the reflection. Looks like that part covers about 2/3rds ....strangely enough.

I don't think Dave's broken that particular guideline at all...not that it matters. What I like about this is that the overall composition is spot on with the lighted (should that be 'lit'?) office acting as a welcome distraction/focal point.

Great image :-)

comment by Eric at 11:12 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

Outstanding composition. While that one office light is grand, the strong lines are the clincher for me.

comment by adam at 11:24 PM (GMT) on 9 October, 2005

this is a terrific shot. i love that light..

comment by Aegir at 12:36 AM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

Very nice indeed. Good photo, and whoever designed the building could do with a pat on the back too...

This would make a great desktop too... :)

I love this shot Dave! The colours, and softness - it's just gorgeous!

comment by Darren at 01:35 AM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

This is one of my favorite photos by you, it's so surreal.

Iknow the pain of moving servera and compatibility. Good luck.

I fell like i'm in a sci-fi with this shot. That one window is where our hero works late to defeat the evil empire that will soon host all photoblogs for free....
But at what price?!

comment by Rob at 09:31 AM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

Fantastic, one of my favourite shots of yours recently. I love the soft hues on the glass and the dark lines. Great shot and good luck with the move!

comment by Michael S. at 10:25 AM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

The best image, by far, for quite some time, in my opinion.

comment by Simon Goodchild at 10:35 AM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

Dave, I suggested this yesterday when the server was less than 100% so apologies for the repeat: Just a suggestion but how about you inlcude a link to the as-shot image with each of your postings. I know you usually shoot in raw, so you could get the 20D to record a 'small' JPEG at the same time with auto white balance and nominal other settings. The benefit of this for people like me is that we can see the before and after of any post processing and RAW processing that you do. Speaking personally I think this could be a really useful way of helping other to realise the potential in a shot I might otherwise not be happy with.

comment by Ioannis at 10:46 AM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

This is a great picture. All the best of luck for moving to a new server. The one you are on is still periodically knackered.

The colors are beautiful and the detail is surprisingly clear considering the calm gradients.

Wow, nice work on this shot. Great work on creating the reflection on windows. Looks 3D.

Awesome!!

Really enjoying this one. Everything comes together just perfectly here. You have a great eye!

comment by Demetrice at 07:47 PM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

ominous. looks like something out of Minority Report or 1984..

comment by Simon C at 07:54 PM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

This is defintely one of your best. Works on lots of levels - colour, texture along with a discreet glimpse into another world. Terrific.

comment by djn1 at 08:12 PM (GMT) on 10 October, 2005

Thanks everyone. Oddly, I wasn't sure what to make of this one. When I post-processed it a couple of weeks ago I really liked it, but the more I looked at it the less sure I became; so it's good to see it being well received.

comment by retronew at 12:16 PM (GMT) on 11 October, 2005

very-very nice.

It reminds me both of -> this picture and of -> this one as a better combination of the two.

I think.

comment by Rusty at 09:32 PM (GMT) on 11 October, 2005

What I find very interesting with this photo is on first look I saw the light being on in the glass building and not really looking at the reflection. Then on second look noticing the reflected building, I could see the light as being on in the reflected building not the glass building. Like looking at the pictures which can be viewed in two ways depending on perspective and where you're focusing. Very cool!

comment by marc at 04:04 AM (GMT) on 12 October, 2005

Found this via Andréas' site, great vision - it's not immediately apparent which building the window is from.

comment by Ed at 05:06 AM (GMT) on 13 October, 2005

That's a terrific shot. I think it's all been said.

comment by Tommy at 11:07 PM (GMT) on 14 October, 2005

Absolutely splendid. I love it.

comment by harkpabst_meliantrop at 05:42 PM (GMT) on 19 October, 2005

Extremely cool. Like a 3d x-ray pic, taken back to reality by the middle section.

comment by Christopher Shipman at 05:15 PM (GMT) on 22 October, 2005

I love the color palette of this shot, and the diagonal lines of the composition. And, of course, the light is a great focal point to add interest. Well done.
