Here's what might turn out to be my penultimate shot from Dalian, and I would write more but I'm totally spaced out this evening, it's almost 1 AM and I have around 22 hours of travelling to do tomorrow. All being well I'll put something up on Thursday.
Oh, and thanks for all the great comments on my last two shots, they're very much appreciated.

Great black and white shot - but, is it me or is the image tilted and every building leaning to the right slightly?
comment bydjn1 at 06:31 PM (GMT) on 25 October, 2005
Jem: this one would have benefitted from being processed with DxO Optics Pro rather than Photoshop as I could have reliably corrected the lens distortion. I think this can be done with CS2, but it's something I've not tried before so I decided to leave it as it is.
On which note, as the most sleep I can possibly get this evening is four and a half hours, I'm going to bed.
See you all when I get back.
comment byIvan at 06:36 PM (GMT) on 25 October, 2005
great bw! :)
did you use a filter on the camera to get the graduated sky?
comment bynuno f at 07:02 PM (GMT) on 25 October, 2005
Fantastic shot!
Love the graduated sky with that black point (I presume it's an airplaine) wich makes the sky more dynamic. Another amazing photo!

Cool. I like the panorama-like view and the outstanding upright policeman.

Very great shot marred only by that unfortunate tilt. I like unconventional crop too. Keep the good stuff coming.
comment bydan culberson at 07:25 PM (GMT) on 25 October, 2005
Fascinatingly good. The sort of image that just belongs "somewhere"... like on the wall of an embassy or boardroom.
Although, I do percieve it is leaning to the right a bit... but that can be fixed easily enough.
Well done. Thanks for photoblogging.
comment byColin at 07:57 PM (GMT) on 25 October, 2005
Don't straighten the buildings.....isn't that what makes this shot? The contrast with the (?) policeman all straight and proud.
Sometimes, just sometimes, a photo can be too perfect.
comment byEd { tfk } at 10:25 PM (GMT) on 25 October, 2005
I love this b&w, the traffic person, buildings, all look great.
It would've been great to angle it as such that the traffic person was emphasized more, but that might've involved getting on the road!
comment byVelviaPix at 10:59 PM (GMT) on 25 October, 2005
Well... Unlike nuno f, if I had taken this shot, I would have cloned out the black spot, airplane, bird or whatever it is. I truly like the graduation, which looks like the effect of a polarizer filter, and the geometry of the buildings/street. Dave, I like this image, but I am not sure I can tell why you decided to crop it.
And I also see the policeman leaning a bit to the right. Sometimes we like to see more than there is to an image, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but respectfully, I do think that this would be better if it was straightened.
comment bybmoll at 12:21 AM (GMT) on 26 October, 2005
I think one can make a mistake and tell it's a photo from 60s or 70s. There is hardly a detail saying it's modern world. Adding BW - a great effect :).

Looks like the policeman popped out of a cake. He doesnt seem to be directing any traffic or is he just letting the pedestrians across. Certainly is timeless.

With CS2 you may use ptlens plugin which is free and is really a competitor in distortion correcting with DxO according to some tests.
