Some people would have you believe that Blackpool is a tacky place, liberally strewn with kitsch and tat. Personally though I prefer to think of it as a haven of postmodern irony, as neatly exemplified by these obvious critiques of global capitalism and contemporary tourism. For example: note the sand in the timer – an obvious symbolic representation of the impending demise of consumerism.

On another matter: David commented yesterday that he thought it might be worth opening a general discussion forum at chromasia. What do you think? My only concern would be that I wouldn't have a massive amount of time to devote to it, but I can probably implement one if there was enough interest (though not for the next few weeks). Anyway, let me know.
