how I use categories on chromasia

All the entries on chromasia are placed into one of seven primary categories: six to reflect the aspect ratio of the image, and the seventh to indicate that an image isn’t available as a print. Additionally, each photograph may be assigned to one of more additional categories or subcategories, e.g. my travel category, children category, and so on.

about the ‘reflections [metal]’ category

Reflections in metal.

Here's my first shot for 2010, taken back in November when I was in Dubai – a shot of an old bicycle down at the Souk. In this instance the post-processing was reasonably straightforward other than that I combined two similar shots of the same subject to construct the final image: one for the main detail, and another to lighten and add texture to the background. If you're interested, both shots are here:

And beyond that I don't have too much else to say today other than Happy New Year :)

I did go out this evening to shoot some new material (including some twilight HDR's) but I haven't processed them yet and suspect, given that it was blowing a gale and I was shooting at relatively low shutter speeds, that they're not likely to be a great success. So, in the absence of anything else to put up, here's another one I shot at the Pleasure Beach the other evening.

17 July, 2006 // TVR Back Home 2006 #350 comments

This is the third and probably final shot from the TVR Back Home 2006 meetup I attended on Saturday. Let me know how you think it compares to the other two.

On another matter: there's a fairly serious amount of behind-the-scenes recoding going on at the moment as I'm adding a few bits to chromasia and am taking the opportunity to tidy up my existing templates and CSS. The finished product isn't going to be massively different to the existing site, but the coding changes are quite major. In other words, there's a good chance that I'll mess something up at some point. If you happen to drop by in the middle of it all ... my apologies.

This is a follow-on to yesterday's shot, and in many ways I think I prefer this one. As I mentioned yesterday, there appears to be a lot of noise in these images, but this is a result of the low resolution as presented here. I've posted a 100% crop of a section of the top right of the image which will give you a much better idea about this surface:

As you can see, this is either a pattern or some form of etching on the metal surface. Anyway, as with yesterday's, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.

Oh, and as with yesterday's this is a straight shot, of a reflection ... NOT a shot of someone else's art ;-)

I have mixed feelings about this one. When I first post-processed it I really liked it, now I'm not so sure, mainly because it doesn't seem quite abstract enough to be an 'abstract', yet it's not detailed enough to be recongnisable. Anyway, to explain: it's a reflection, in metal. The apparent noise is a pattern on the metal itself, and the bit on the right is a reflection of a tower encased in scaffolding poles and green netting. But despite taking the shot, I have no idea what the red bit in the middle's about ;-)

I don't have a great deal to say about this one other than that it's a straight shot and that the tortured structure you can see reflected in the metalwork is the Pepsi Max rollercoaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
