Sign up for The Photoshop Masterclass, our latest online training resource, and join up to eight additional photographers for a detailed and constructive critique of your work by David. If you’re serious about improving your postproduction, the Photoshop Masterclass is a great place to start.
The next class takes place on Saturday 5th May at 5pm BST.
During each three hour masterclass David will work through the images submitted by the participants, offering a detailed and constructive critique of both the initial image and its subsequent postproduction, focussing on any issues or problems identified by the photographer, in addition to working through any suggestions of his own. The session is streamed live – you’ll be able to watch David work through each image – and, if you’re one of the participants you’ll be able to ask questions, discuss your own image, and join in with the discussions during the remainder of the event.
If you’re not ready to take part you can sign up as an attendee rather than a participant. Each participant and attendee will receive a free HD recording of The Photoshop Masterclass after the event.
If you’re not familiar with David’s work, take a look at the following gallery of ‘before’ and ‘after’ images. Each original is overlaid with a screenshot of the adjustment layers used to create the final image.
Should you sign up?
If you’re interested in developing and refining your photography and postproduction … yes, definitely.
You should also sign up if you:
- Are interested in receiving a detailed and helpful critique of your work.
- Have an issue with a specific image that you haven’t been able resolve.
- Want to enhance an image but are not sure of the best approach to take.
- Would like to explore alternative interpretations of your image.
- Need help with a specific tool, technique or approach (e.g. the best way to convert an image to black and white, how to enhance the colour within an image, how to make the most of the Curves tool, and so on).
If you’re not sure about taking part, please email David for advice and he’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
If you sign up as an attendee it’s very simple. A few days before the masterclass we’ll send you the url you’ll need to log in. We use Zoom to broadcast and record each session, so all you’ll need to do is download the free plugin when you join your first masterclass and you’ll be good to go.
After the event we’ll send you an HD recording via WeTransfer.
If you sign up as a participant, you have a bit more to do. You’ll also receive an invite to the masterclass, and a recording of the event, but in addition, you’ll need to format and upload your image to Dropbox, along with a brief statement outlining the specific issues you’d like to discuss. At this stage we’ll review your image and notes to make sure we think you’ll benefit from taking part. If not, we’ll send you a full refund.
When you sign up you should be redirected to a page with full details on exactly what you need to do after you sign up. If not, here’s the link.
If you don’t have Dropbox, don’t worry, it’s free, will give you 2GB of free online storage, and is easy to set up on either a Mac or PC. Sign up here.

How often will you run the Photoshop Masterclasses?
We’re hoping to run them at least once a month.
I’m a Photoshop novice, will the Photoshop Masterclass be over my head if I sign up as a participant?
The feedback you receive on your image will be tailored to your level of expertise, and you’ll be able to ask questions during the session, so no, it won’t be over your head.
I consider myself a Photoshop expert. Will I benefit from taking part?
Yes. Producing a great image is as much about aesthetics as it as about technical competence, so having the opportunity to discuss your work with your peers will prove to be a valuable experience.
If I can’t make it on a particular date will I able to download a recording?
Yes, we plan on making all the masterclass recording available for purchase at some point in the near future. Watch this space for further details.
