One Angel Square
2nd June 2017
by David J. Nightingale
This is a shot of One Angel Square in Manchester, the head office of the Cooperative Group.
According to Wikipedia, “One Angel Square is one of the most sustainable large buildings in Europe and is built to a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating. It is powered by a biodiesel cogeneration plant using rapeseed oil to provide electricity and heat. The structure makes use of natural resources, maximising passive solar gain for heat and using natural ventilation through its double-skin facade, adiabatic cooling, rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling and waste heat recycling.”
It’s also very photogenic.

Shot back in 2012, this was a long exposure taken just after sunset. As you can see, if you take a look at the original, I processed this one to bring out the detail on the horizon and in the rather unusual clouds.
